Gilleleje Museum chooses KINN Studio

On 18 June 2026 KINN Studio won the tender for the new exhibition at Gilleleje Museum about the flight of the Danish Jews across Øresund in October 1943. The museum is part of Museum Nordsjælland, and the exhibition belongs to the project At handle i mørket, made together with Dansk Jødisk Museum and supported by Slots- og Kulturstyrelsen.

One night in October 1943 this small dinghy carried 37 Jewish refugees out onto Øresund. Under cover of the autumn darkness, thirteen year old Niels Anker from Villingebæk led them from their hiding places down to the beach. The boat becomes one of the anchors of the exhibition: a modest piece of boatbuilding that came to carry 37 fates towards freedom.

Around it we design a sensory exhibition that unfolds one dramatic month in Gilleleje and along the coast. Refugees, helpers, mothers with small children, Gestapo officers and local fishermen all made decisive choices, and those choices had decisive consequences for their own lives and for the lives of others. That is where the exhibition begins.
