A permanent exhibition at the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark, tracing four centuries of Danish maritime history: trade, longing, fear, and invention. The exhibition unfolds what happens when people cross the sea, pairing the museum's collection with newly commissioned installations, film, and fiction by contemporary artists, and asking each visitor a simple question along the way: what imprint do you leave?

The history of seafaring, told through food

What did it feel like to be a sailor on board a sailing ship in the 1700s? Ceramicist Rose Eken has interpreted 400 years of seafaring through the meals sailors ate on board through the ages. As conditions at sea improved, the food and the ceramics changed with them.

The last sailmaker

Helle Barner is the last sailmaker in Nyhavn. She gives a rare insight into her craft, a maritime tradition with roots in the past and still alive.
