The first major exhibition about Countess Danner, shown at the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle from May to November 2025. Born Louise Rasmussen, a ballet dancer from the bottom of society, she married Frederik VII in the castle chapel in 1850 and was mocked, shamed and refused her place at court. Through her own belongings, artworks and archives, the exhibition followed her life and traced how she has been used and reinterpreted over 175 years: as scandal, as saint, as a figure for the labour movement, for women's liberation and for cultural radicalism. Room by room, the scenography gave each reading of Danner its own colour, from the damask of the court to the red of the pamphlets that mocked her. Five stars across the board from the Danish press.
